Introduction

What is drug rehab and how does it work?

Drug rehab involves a combination of specialist therapies and traditional treatments to help people who are addicted to drugs.

As an in-patient at Delamere’s state-of-the-art rehab centre, guests undergo a medically assisted drug detox to manage withdrawal symptoms, followed by a range of holistic therapies to help them build resilience and recover.

Treatment might include yoga, breathwork, mindfulness, meditation, equine and art therapy, along with one-to-one counselling sessions and group work.

Who needs drug rehab?

Anyone who feels like their drug taking is out of control would benefit from staying in a rehab facility. When drugs become a priority over work, family and friends, it’s a strong sign to seek help.

Residential rehab gives patients the chance to truly focus on the root cause of their drug addiction and to develop the tools to break free from harmful behaviour.

If you’ve been taking drugs for a long time, or in large amounts, attempting to quit without professional rehab can be dangerous, even life threatening. ¹

The programme

Our Holistic Drug Rehab Programme

An in-patient stay at Delamere is a deliberately intensive 4-phase drug rehab programme which we’ve crafted over time to help many people recover.

We start by taking you through a safe and assisted drug detox supervised by our Delamere team of passionate therapists, doctors, nurses, counsellors, and support staff, some of whom have lived experience of addiction.

Bloom

Our ‘Bloom’ phase offers intensive support on a weekly basis for the first three months of recovery once guests return home.

Our emphasis is on holistic care. This means that we treat the whole person rather than just the symptoms they present with. We believe that successful drug rehab runs far deeper than simply stopping the addictive substance or behaviour.

Our approach at Delamere comprises 4 core phases: Stop, Start, Grow, & Bloom. Everything we offer at Delamere aims at effective and lasting outcomes in addiction treatment:

Therapy

Signs you may need to enter rehab

Physical signs and symptoms of drug addiction (Substance Use Disorder) differ depending on the type of drug being used. Stimulants, such as cocaine, speed up the body and brain, while depressants, like cannabis, slow speech and movement down. There are, however, some general physical and mental red flags that signal drug abuse.

Early warning signs of drug abuse

  • Strong drug cravings and compulsion to use
  • Drug tolerance: needing more or mixing drugs for effect
  • Drug dependence: experiencing withdrawal without drugs
  • Being unreachable for extended periods
  • Frequent drug intoxication

Behavioural changes in drug addiction

  • Increased anxiety or depression
  • Becoming socially withdrawn and demotivated
  • Mood swings and irritability
  • Erratic, unpredictable behaviour
  • Hiding drugs or lying about using
  • Neglecting work or school

Physical health indicators of a drug problem

  • Substantial changes in sleeping pattern
  • Changes in weight and appearance
  • Poor coordination
  • Bloodshot or ‘glazed’ eyes
  • Constricted or dilated pupils
  • Slurred speech

Aftercare

Our rehab aftercare services

When you stay with Delamere, our support doesn't simply end when you complete your inpatient rehab treatment. Our team will still be available to support you through our specialist aftercare services.

We provide 12 weekly meetings in small groups to support you during the first three months of recovery after you return home. The bespoke syllabus is designed to help you transition back into everyday life after completing your stay with us.

You can also benefit from aftercare sessions twice a week for 15 months, with access to expert advice and support from our team of therapists and counsellors. Many people keep in touch with fellow guests through our aftercare services, creating a community that supports each other in recovery long after they leave.

Our doors are always open to past guests, and we frequently host events to celebrate the success of our alumni.
