Heroin Detox
Whether you or a loved one are struggling with a heroin addiction, you can take comfort in our assisted heroin detox, overseen by a team of medical professionals including 24-hour on-site nurses. It is our belief at Delamere that with the right support, anyone can take back control of their lives from addiction.
A tailored approach to heroin detox at Delamere
At Delamere, we know that the thought of heroin detox can be extremely frightening and how hopeless and helpless it can feel when one has become dependent on a substance. That’s why we provide our guests with a medical detox to make this process as comfortable and safe as possible. Unlike many other heroin detox centres, Delamere provides guests with a tailored heroin detox to minimise symptoms and maximise comfort and safety during a period that can seem scary for many. Our medical team, support staff and tranquil setting provide a safe and supportive environment to complete a heroin detox.
Detoxing from heroin is typically the first step to rehabilitation at a heroin detox centre. At Delamere, we replace heroin use with a medically approved drug from our team of doctors and nurses to support the body’s withdrawal from heroin safely. We take a highly tailored approach to heroin detox as we know from experience that everybody reacts differently to drug withdrawal and thus requires different care.
‘The best thing I’ve ever done.’ Simon reflects on his stay at Delamere
“Delamere focuses on equipping you with the tools to love sobriety and understand what led to the addiction in the first place which really helped me grow.” – Delamere Guest

The cruciality of an inpatient heroin detox
Heroin addiction is considered a brain disorder because it causes structural and functional changes to the brain’s circuits that control reward, stress, and impulse. The more heroin that is used, the more pronounced these changes become. Even when heroin use has been successfully stopped, structural changes to the brain can remain for a long time and in many cases can last a lifetime. This is why detox clinics for heroin addiction like Delamere are vital for long-term recovery.
Attempting to detox from heroin at home can be possible, however, due to the chemical changes it makes to the brain it is very difficult and dangerous once the body has become dependent. In extreme cases going ‘cold turkey’ with no medical assistance can lead to fatalities, which is why at Delamere we provide our guests with a safe environment to complete a medically assisted heroin rehab and detox, under the supervision of 24-hour on-site nurses.
What to expect from a heroin detox at Delamere
The initial phase of our heroin detox programme ‘Stop’ starts with some light therapeutic work while you undergo detox which helps you settle in and connect. This introductory work is carried out in interactive groups during which we get to know you and what’s brought you into treatment.
What you can expect from our ‘Stop’ programme is:
- A full medical detox for any alcohol or substance dependence
- A health screening from our specialist substance misuse Doctor
- 24-hour access to our fully qualified nursing team
- Medication (if required) to alleviate any withdrawal symptoms
- Plenty of rest, recuperation, and nourishment
- Your own private room with en-suite facilities
- To socialise in client lounges with fellow guests
- A deliberately light introduction to therapy
- To start feeling better, quicker than you might expect
- Access to our gym, gardens, and forest surroundings when physically fit
‘Stop’ lays the foundations for the following stages of our rehab programme. Once you have completed your detox, staying stopped and future-proofing your abstinence is the next step. Everything we offer at Delamere aims at effective and lasting outcomes in addiction treatment:
How to encourage a loved one to go to rehab
If you are looking to help a family member, work colleague, or loved one, admit themselves to an addiction rehabilitation centre, we’re here to help. It may be that the person in question is in denial about the extent of their problem, possibly even refusing to acknowledge that there’s a problem – and resisting professional help. At Delamere, we provide family support services and help your loved one confront addiction and denial.
Should it be necessary, we also offer intervention services whereby we take the time to understand what is happening and help prepare and rehearse a formal intervention that will culminate in your loved one entering treatment with us. If you are considering organising an intervention for your loved one, friend, or colleague, contact Delamere today.
