“Cannabis is the ultimate ‘de-motivator’ and when addiction takes hold users often become isolated in the extreme.”
Private cannabis rehab in the UK
If you or a loved one has a problem with cannabis, we’re here to help. We have a team of qualified experts who can guide you through withdrawal safely at our private retreat.
What is cannabis rehab?
Cannabis is still one of the most popular recreational drugs in the world. In England and Wales, 6.8% of adults aged 16 to 59 admitted to using it last year (to March 2024)¹ and it remains the most common substance (86%) that children come into rehab for.²
Often seen as a softer drug, cannabis is surprisingly addictive, especially for people who abuse it regularly. This includes medicinal use to aid sleep, manage pain or anxiety. When a daily habit becomes addiction, it may be time to explore rehab.
Cannabis rehab is a structured programme that helps you to reduce or stop use safely. It addresses psychological and behavioural patterns that fuel your addiction. At our private facility in the UK, we support adults of all ages with personalised treatment plans that combine a cannabis detox with evidence-based therapies.

Do I need therapy for cannabis?
Not everyone who uses cannabis needs rehab, so how do you know if it’s necessary? You may feel like your cannabis use is under control, but if you’re having cravings every day or finding it hard to quit, there are some signs you may need help.
Signs you might have a weed problem
It’s not always easy to notice the shift from casual use to drug dependence. These signs show it might be time to consider rehab.
- Using an increasing amount of cannabis
- Thinking about taking cannabis all the time
- Lying to get hold of cannabis
- Recognising but ignoring negative impacts
- Finding it hard to stop taking cannabis
- Feeling worse when not taking cannabis
Symptoms of cannabis addiction
If you’re taking a lot of cannabis regularly you may notice certain physical and mental symptoms in between uses, such as:
- Anxiety and paranoia
- Irritability, restlessness and mood swings
- Low motivation
- Brain fog
- Sleep problems
- Social withdrawal
- Intense cravings
These symptoms suggest your mind and body may have become reliant on cannabis. It may be time to seek professional help.

What does cannabis rehab involve?
Private addiction treatment at Delamere begins with a medically assisted cannabis detox to help your body overcome the physical aspects of addiction. The next step addresses the psychological aspects and root causes of your problem.
Learn how to live without cannabis through:
- 1-2-1 therapy and group therapy sessions
- Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and intervention techniques
- Coping mechanisms and scenario planning
- Nutrition, exercise and well-being support
- Complementary therapies such as breathwork, yoga, music and art
- Opening up to other people who are going through the same problems will help you grow from your addiction.

Frequently asked questions about cannabis rehab
A cannabis-addicted brain will need intensive healing following a detox to stay cannabis-free. At Delamere, we achieve this through a four-phase programme consisting of evidence-based therapies, emotionally enriching and nurturing activities, holistic therapies, and instilling new and healthier coping strategies and behaviours. We believe that it is important to treat all aspects of each individual guest – mind, body, and spirit.
To treat all aspects of our guests and their addictions, at Delamere we have created a 3-step treatment programme that differs significantly from other rehabs in the UK. This involves:
- Stopping the cycle of addiction safely and comfortably.
- Helping the individual heal whatever pain is causing them to escape themselves and reality.
- Instilling a set of tools to help maintain abstinence and encourage continued personal growth.
During your time at Delamere, you will receive two 1-1 counselling sessions and two Recovery Mentoring sessions a week, group therapy, and a range of holistic treatments.
Our addiction treatment programmes typically last for 28 days. The first week is focused on breaking the physical and mental addiction. This is followed by intensive therapy. Once home, we will support your recovery with 15 months of in-person or remote peer-supported aftercare. Quitting cannabis is a lifelong commitment but we are here for you all the way.
People who have been smoking weed or consuming cannabis for a long time are most at risk of developing dependence. Sometimes, your home environment makes it difficult to stop and extra support is needed to break the habit. You may also have concurrent medical problems, such as mental health issues, which can make the path to recovery more challenging.
Trying to overcome any addiction alone is challenging. As well as the difficulty of managing withdrawal symptoms, you don’t have the tools to address the underlying psychological reasons for your cannabis problem. Structured approaches, like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and motivational interventions, can help to prevent relapse and improve chances of success with ongoing support. Everything we offer at Delamere aims at effective and lasting outcomes in addiction treatment.
