The Delamere Treatment Model

The Delamere Treatment Model

When you’re looking for help with drug or alcohol addiction it can be hard to know which care provider to choose for you or a loved one.

The Delamere Treatment Model is as unique as its setting. Following his own personal journey through addiction, our founder wanted to create a treatment programme unlike any other. A supportive, immersive and connected experience that identifies each person’s individual struggles and gives them the tools to grow beyond addiction.

What makes the Delamere Treatment model different?

Most facilities follow a 12-step addiction treatment model. A concept that was originally created by Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) in the 1930s with a heavily spiritual foundation. This has since been developed and is used in a wide range of peer-support and self-help programmes around the world. While the guiding principles of this model are relatable, the Delamere Treatment Model offers a more tailored, therapeutic approach driven by the latest research.

The Delamere Treatment Model is person-centred and holistic. That means we listen to each guest’s unique story and respond with the type of support they need. This isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ solution. We recognise what works for one person might not be right for another. Our programme is designed to deliver inspiring experiences using a range of innovative techniques that help guests to understand the role of addictive behaviours in their life and get to the heart of underlying problems.

Unlike the 12-step model, The Delamere Treatment Model has not been developed to treat one particular addiction. We offer proven and effective strategies to help people overcome alcohol addiction, drug addiction, prescription drug addiction and a wide range of other addictions in a more individualised way. We like to call it stop, start, grow.

Stop, start and grow with the Delamere Treatment Model

Most popular treatment models place too much emphasis on stopping the addictive behaviour and not enough on what triggers it. We know that addiction always has to start somewhere and is often rooted in past traumatic experiences. The Delamere Treatment Model delves deeper to pinpoint why addiction became a problem in the first place and how we can work together to help you come out of the other side stronger, healthier and better equipped to deal with future challenges. Our Delamere Treatment Model supports you through three key phases of your recovery.

Week 1

STOP: Taking time out to start healing

The first step to overcoming addiction is to recognise the need to press pause and step out of your life, and your head, for a while. This is often a very difficult decision that can make you feel stressed and anxious. You might worry about how your absence will affect work and family, but by choosing to break the cycle you’ve already taken the first step.

Most people start the Delamere Treatment Model with some sort of dependency which will require medical treatment. For instance, you may need to undergo an alcohol detox to help you safely withdraw from alcohol. You will be placed into the care of our experienced clinical team and assigned your own focal counsellor, mentor and dedicated nurse. They will support you every step of the way and provide a compassionate and caring environment for you to heal and recover.

Weeks 2-3

START: Finding the best way forward

The second phase of the Delamere Treatment Model is the introduction of a more intensive, structured therapy programme. By week two and three you will start to feel more settled. You’ll be comfortable talking to your peers and support team and more familiar with the daily routine. This is when we will start to identify the triggers of your addiction and introduce different strategies and therapeutic techniques to help you manage them.

We use themed days to explore how your addictive behaviour manifests and balance this soul-searching work with wellness therapies and complimentary treatments to support body and mind. This includes breathwork, yoga, massage, Equine psychotherapy and fire ceremonies as well as fun social activities such as nature walks, table tennis and film nights. You can expect your days to be fulfilling, challenging and restorative.

Week 4

GROW: Living your learning experience

During the final phase of the Delamere Treatment Model we start to prepare you for life after you leave our retreat. In the last week of your stay, you’ll discover how to apply your coping mechanisms and survival strategies to real life situations so that you can recognise trigger points and avoid a return to active addiction.

We will work with you, your family and loved ones to create a detailed plan with access to additional support through therapy sessions or recovery communities. And our care doesn’t end when you leave. Once you graduate and return home, we will provide 12 months of ongoing aftercare, helping you to navigate life after rehab. This means you can keep in touch with everyone who has shared your journey and can call on the expertise of your qualified healthcare team whenever you need them.
