Tailored steroid detox at Delamere

As with other illicit drugs, anabolic steroids come with unpleasant withdrawal symptoms if you suddenly stop taking them. Therefore, the first part of any addiction treatment programme should include a medical steroid detox to help reduce cravings safely under observation. Unlike many other steroid rehabs, at Delamere, we tailor our steroid detox programme and any medication to suit each guest and their individual needs.

Your detox from steroids will be overseen by our Delamere team of medical professionals, including 24-hour on-site nurses who can monitor any withdrawal symptoms and react accordingly, making the process as comfortable as possible. Loved ones and guests alike take comfort and confidence in our 24-hour on-site nurses who are on hand to oversee detoxification and make it as smooth a process as possible.

Why go to an inpatient steroid detox centre?

Delamere is the UK’s only purpose-built addiction rehabilitation centre and behavioural health clinic. It is our belief and experience that with the right treatment and emotional support anyone can permanently break the cycle of steroid addiction

By removing yourself from your typical environment, Delamere offers a safe and supportive space to complete a detox from steroids. Detoxing at home can be very dangerous and often leads to addiction relapse which is why we provide our guests with a medically-assisted steroid detox.

“Our on-site medical team offer a tailored approach to detox. We insist on providing a 24-hour nursing team which enables us to offer the safest and most comfortable detox regime in the UK.”

How to encourage a loved one to go to rehab

If you are looking to help a family member, work colleague, or loved one, admit themselves to an addiction rehabilitation centre, we’re here to help. It may be that the person in question is in denial about the extent of their problem, possibly even refusing to acknowledge that there’s a problem – and resisting professional help. At Delamere, we provide family support services and help your loved one confront addiction and denial.

Should it be necessary, we also offer intervention services whereby we take the time to understand what is happening and help prepare and rehearse a formal intervention that will culminate in your loved one entering treatment with us. If you are considering organising an intervention for your loved one, friend, or colleague, contact Delamere today.

Frequently asked questions about steroid detox

What are some of the withdrawal symptoms of a detox from steroids?

As with any drug, people react differently and experience different withdrawal symptoms. Anabolic steroids increase serotonin and dopamine levels – the regions of the brain associated with pleasure and reward. Chronic use disrupts the function of these pathways, which is why anxiety and depression are common withdrawal symptoms when someone stops taking steroids. Other withdrawal symptoms include insomnia, difficulty concentrating, extreme tiredness, and even anorexia.

Will I need medication while detoxing from steroids?

The steroids you have been taking will need to be replaced by an approved medication to balance out hormones and prevent any complications. You may also be given antidepressants to combat the psychological effects of withdrawal, and the addiction itself, and NSAIDs, such as aspirin, for pain relief. Delamere’s experienced medical team have been helping people overcome addiction at our private rehab and detox facility for many years and can develop a tailored steroid detox programme to suit your individual needs.
