Share your addiction struggles with the caring holistic therapists at Delamere wellness retreat
When someone develops an addiction to drugs it can be hard to see a way out. You might feel scared to speak out, concerned for your family or worried about losing your job. The most important thing is admitting you have a problem and seeking professional help.
At least 35 million people in the world suffer with drug addiction. Most people know someone who has a drug problem or has lost someone as a consequence of it, but prevention and treatment continue to fall short. Only one in seven people receive the treatment they need for drug use disorders each year (1).
Drug counselling, delivered by trained holistic therapists, is an essential part of drug addiction support. It is a type of talking therapy that helps people to understand the reasons for their addiction and tackle the thoughts, habits and behaviours fuelling it. Delamere has a fully qualified team of drug addiction experts that deliver one-to-one counselling and group therapy sessions at our purpose-built retreat in Cheshire. We are here to listen in a non-judgemental way and help you achieve lasting abstinence.
If you need specialist drug counselling, contact our team today and learn more about the different programmes we offer here at Delamere.
The first step in treating drug addiction is often a clinically supported drug detox, which helps to tackle the body’s physical dependence. This is delivered with carefully balanced medication and nutritional support to help minimise unpleasant withdrawal symptoms and make the process as comfortable as possible.
However, drug addiction is not something that only affects the body, it also has a profound effect on the mind. The deep-rooted psychological and emotional impacts of addiction also need to be addressed as part of a residential rehab programme. At Delamere, we use drug counselling to treat the individual holistically, looking at all aspects of their lives to build a picture of what is shaping their addiction and develop the tools to conquer it.
Using a variety of evidence-based techniques, we can help our guests to:
Identify behaviours, thoughts or situations that trigger the addiction
Develop coping strategies to overcome negative emotions
Connect with themselves and others in a supportive environment
Repair broken relationships and build self-esteem
Learn how to manage stress and prevent relapse
Feel empowered to live a life free from drugs
Individual, group and family drug counselling
Talking about your drug addiction isn’t easy and you may not feel ready to discuss your innermost feelings in a group setting. At Delamere, we offer a combination of one-to-one therapy sessions with an assigned focal therapist and the opportunity to take part in group work which provides the drug addiction support you need to heal. Often, long-suffering family members need just as much support to deal with drug addiction. Family drug counselling can help loved ones come to terms with past events, understand more about the process of overcoming addiction and become more involved in the rehabilitation.
Drug addiction isn’t something that can simply be cured. Most people who suffer with drug use disorders will need help to remain in active recovery for life. This means more than simply abstaining from their drug of choice. In recent years, drug counselling has increasingly been found to be effective in treating substance abuse and dependence, especially evidence-based interventions such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing and relapse prevention (2).
Delamere’s team of multi-disciplinary holistic therapists offers a wide range of proven drug counselling techniques for drug addiction support throughout recovery and beyond:

Admitting you have a problem starts with seeking help. If you have become dependent on drugs, we will help you complete a safe and comfortable withdrawal with drug addiction support from a dedicated medical team. Our highly trained drug addiction specialists will guide you through an assisted drug detox at our purpose-built wellness retreat to begin the healing process.
Following this, your focal therapist will work with you to pinpoint the reason for your addictive behaviour, whether driven by past trauma or present circumstances, using the counselling method best suited to your needs. You will also have at least two sessions with your recovery mentor every week.
Every residential rehab programme is built around our unique three-step approach that takes into account every aspect of your emotional, physical and psychological well-being. We combine one-to-one drug counselling, group therapy sessions and a range of somatic healing techniques to help identify your triggers and develop coping mechanisms to move on with your life. Together, we will help you stop craving drugs, start to heal the trauma and grow beyond addiction.
