Introducing the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between MMU and Delamere

What’s included?
What is a KTP?
For those unfamiliar, a KTP – partly funded by Innovate UK – is a UK-wide programme that connects businesses with academia, and facilitates a collaborative project aimed at addressing a strategic challenge.

In our case, the partnership brings together academics from Manchester Met with research expertise in substance use and recovery, and Delamere’s experience of delivering evidence-based treatment for substance and behavioural addictions.
As the Programme Impact Lead, I ensure the project delivers both meaningful outcomes and long-term sustainability. I act as a bridge between Manchester Met and Delamere, facilitating the smooth exchange of knowledge and expertise between academic and clinical teams.

KTP at Delamere
Delamere’s holistic, four-stage treatment model is designed to support guests in identifying, achieving, and sustaining their individual recovery goals – empowering them to move beyond addiction and build a recovery that is sustained and personally meaningful.
As part of this KTP, we are developing and piloting a circular evaluation tool that captures self-defined recovery outcomes from both guests and alumni, and measures them against Bloom – Delamere’s structured, post-discharge group programme.
Once the KTP is complete, the Delamere team will be equipped to apply the tool across all four stages of the treatment model, using it to assess the effectiveness and adapt aspects of the programme using recently gathered client outcome data.
Reframing recovery
Industry standards for measuring ‘successful outcomes’ in addiction treatment often focus narrowly on treatment completion and sustained abstinence. While these are important indicators, they can overlook the diverse and deeply personal goals individuals set during their recovery journey.

What distinguishes Delamere – and what drew me to this role – is its commitment to recognising and embedding personalised recovery outcomes within its evaluation process. Making this a core component of the circular evaluation tool we’re developing through the KTP is not only innovate; it also has the potential to shift the narrative and reshape how recovery is understood and assessed across the sector.
